Capturing Curiosity : Front yard discoveries.
As a photographer, I often find inspiration in the little moments of wonder that surround us daily. Recently, our front yard became a miniature wildlife sanctuary, sparking curiosity and fascination in my kids.
It all started when we stumbled upon a Saunders Case Moth. These unique creatures, known for their elaborate, portable homes made of silk and twigs, are a rare sight. The kids were absolutely mesmerized, spending hours watching the moth drag its carefully constructed home across our yard. It was a perfect lesson in nature’s ingenuity and the importance of perseverance.
Two days later, our backyard exploration took a more somber turn. We found a tiny, lifeless marbled gecko. Despite the sadness of this discovery, it became a poignant moment of learning and reflection for the kids. They pondered why the baby gecko might have died and wondered where its family was.
In these moments, I see the world through my children’s eyes. Their endless curiosity and empathy remind me of the beauty and fragility of life. As they questioned and learned, I captured these fleeting moments, preserving their sense of wonder and the stories that nature tells us.
These backyard adventures are a testament to the richness of life that surrounds us, often unnoticed. They remind us to slow down, observe, and appreciate the small wonders of the natural world. As a photographer, I cherish these experiences, knowing they enrich our lives and deepen our connection to the world around us.
